Luscombe 8A/E Performance

After all of these modifications, how does it perform ?

Most of the flying has been at or around Durango, Colorado with 6,725 ft field altitude

We have only had one trip to lower altitudes ( Phoenix, AZ - 1,200 ft ) so performance specifications are few.

Also most of these figures are with the climb prop installed and just the pilot, unless noted..  

Altitudes reached -  pilot close to gross at takeoff   - 17,950 ft

                          -  pilot/passenger                     - 15,500 ft (Was still climbing)

Max Speeds via GPS with wind correction     - 110 mph - 9,500 ft

                                                               - 122 mph at 9,500 ft with cruise prop

Climb rate at 2,000 ft - Pilot/Pass                - 500 fpm

                at 8,000 ft - Pilot/Pass                - 350+ fpm

                at 8,000 ft - Pilot only                - 450+ fpm

Takeoff roll at 6725 ft 60 deg - Pilot/Pass    - 800 to 900 ft 

No performance figures available for lower altitudes

Fuel burn - 8,000 ft leaned and full throttle - 5.0

              - 8,000 ft leaned and 2300 RPM    - 4.5 g.p.h. - 90+ mph

                Fuel burn at lower altitudes at full throttle will increase to about 5.5

                With the cruise prop we get a higher speed with about .5 g.p.h. lower fuel usage - 

                Maximum developed engine rpm at cruise with cruise prop is: 2350 rpm, with climb prop is: 2550 rpm

                I would not recommend the cruise prop for these higher altitudes, we had flown it about 10 hours with the cruise prop installed but it resulted in slow climb performance with pilot/passenger...  We have 14,000 foot passes 20 minutes from us. The climb prop would get us up and over them direct. The cruise prop would be great for sea level or one person operation at altitude.
